Wills and Living Trusts

If you would like to plan for a future gift to Haven for Hope from your estate, this guide will provide a starting point for you and your legal/financial advisor.

Designating Haven for Hope as a beneficiary in your estate plans is a meaningful way to help us continue our mission to offer a place of hope and new beginnings by providing, coordinating, and delivering an efficient system of care for people experiencing homelessness in San Antonio.

Your bequest can specify if you would like your gift to be used in support of a special program, operating needs, or capital projects.

  • Your gift is not subject to federal estate tax.
  • You may change your wishes regarding the beneficiary designation at any time.
  • You are in control of the funds or property throughout your lifetime.
  • With your legal/financial advisor, you include language in your living trust or will designating Haven for Hope as the beneficiary.
  • You control the funds or property during your lifetime.
  • When you pass away, Haven for Hope receives your bequest.

Beneficiary Designations

Naming Haven for Hope as a beneficiary is a powerful way to leave a legacy. You can designate Haven to receive assets such as life insurance policies, IRAs and retirement plans, or donor-advised funds.

  • No federal income tax is due on the funds that pass to Haven for Hope.
  • No federal estate tax is due on the funds.
  • You name Haven for Hope as beneficiary for any portion of your financial assets you desire.
  • When you pass away, Haven for Hope receives the funds you specified.

  • Request a change-of-beneficiary form from your policy administrator or download the form from your provider’s website. Make your desired changes and return the form to establish your gift.
